Ambition-less child

Do you remember when you were young, like really young, when you were still in primary school young, that you will be asked by your class teacher to write down your top three ambitions, every single year? Do you still remember yours?

Back then, I didn't have a clue what was the point of that. Not that I see what is the point of it now either.

I remembered some of mine were:
1. Singer
2. Actor
3. Engineer
4. Lawyer

Obviously you can see that I didn't exactly take the task of writing down my ambitions very seriously. Or did I?

I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote down singer / actor. LOL. Engineer was one that I wrote down every single year. Maybe because it was the most 'normal' job I could think of, other than singer/actor. Not that I had a strong passion to be an engineer. It was just one of the choices to fill up the 3 blanks. I always had a hard time putting down the 3 ambitions, so I ended up just simply write down something, just to show the world I'm not some ambition-less child. And every year I will have different ambitions, except for the engineer part. LOL.

Of course I am not an engineer today. I'm an actor.

In my dream maybe. :p

So what was your ambition?

My other 'ambition', to have abs like that! :p

  2. i suspect when we were asked that question at that age, what we write were probably what we know from/ through our parent's lenses of what is good. and becos we do not know what we do not know, i am very sure no one at that age would put things like poet, academician, paleontologist, archeologist, or for that matter, porn star...

as for me, it was very fashionable during my time to aspire to be doctors and lawyers.

    1. I think for my case, maybe I watched too much tv when I was young, thus the weird choices such as singer / actor.

    2. it is interesting to see how perception of certain career/ profession changes with time. when i was a kid, singers are perceived not much differently from prostitutes. but these days, singers are idolized and many a times, taken as role models.

      :-)

    3. LOL it's frightening to think that I once aspired to be a 'prostitute'!

  3. Yes I remember mine!
Most years I wrote architect as my first choice, because at that time I really enjoyed drawing, I used to sketch multi leveled buildings will lots of windows, and cars and even did some comics (which suck btw) hahaha. But reality is, I'm not a talented artist.

I also remember in one year I wrote 'postman' which prompted my class teacher to ask my mum why I wrote that during report card day. Yes, I actually remember it LOL..

I never thought of writing show biz stuff back in those days. In contrast, right now, I dream of being like a singer (even though I can't reach high notes), an actor and also modelling (even though I'm not tall enough and my body isn't muscular enough) :P

    1. I think I wrote architect too one year! Haha... postman was quite random.

Thank god my teacher didn't ask my parents what prompted me to choose singer, actor as my ambitions. I think my inner diva was making an appearance for the first time. LOL!

Thinking back, what a silly boy I was! :D

    1. Sometimes, fate has a way of bringing the unexpected. Whether it's good or not, it's how you perceive it. At least now you are on the path of a challenging and fulfilling job.
